This is common when the front bearing hubs start to go out causing the sensor to stop working but to be sure this video shows how to get the codes.

Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.

After replacing front and rear brake pads, The brakes are working fine. The rotors did not need replacing. Calipers were free and not leaking. Levels are correct. The ABS light remains on. How do I reset this light?
Please help me with this annoying dilemma
thanks, brian.

Thats good, but there is still something wrong with your Antilock Braking System. Possibly a bad wheel speed sensor or corroded electrical connection? If this light started coming on only after your brakes were worked on, go back to the shop and have them check whether they disconnected a sensor. Otherwise, have it looked at by Mr. Goodwrench.

I had my front brakes repaired at a garage and now the brake light, not the ABS light, comes on. Any idea why?

It could need bleeding or a bad master cylinder.

Yesterday I braked on a dry non slippery surface and the ABS brakes engaged and then the ABS light came on.
Since then the ABS light is not on, but the ABS did engage one more time while I was stopping.

Chances are there is a problem with one of the sensors at a wheel. What I recommend is to have the computer scanned for codes. If the light was on, there should be a code stored in the computer that would identify where the problem came from.

Most parts stores will do it for free, so I recommend having that done and let me know what you find.

The ABS light comes on sometimes while I am driving. It also occasionally makes a whirring sound, sometimes when I apply my brakes and sometime when I first start to drive. After I get the speed up beyond fifteen mph, I do not hear the sound. However, sometimes, at very low speed, when I apply my brakes, there is a thunking sound and sometime even a chatter and it does feel like it wants to stop moving. Then it goes away and may not happen at all that day, unless it sits still for a couple of hours and it starts all over again. I was told that it was the left side front wheel hub so it was changed, yet it still does the same.

You need to get ABS system scanned with chassis scanner. Most auto parts stores only scan power-train codes, so you will have to find a shop that can scan ABS system and isolate problem.

Here is a video that show you how:

Please let us know what happens.

Cheers, Ken

The ABS scan should point the tech in the right direction, it may also be the ABS computer/traction control system.

So, what is the solution? Is this is a manufacturer's defect? I have the same problem.

Brakes problem
2001 Pontiac Montana 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

How can I read the codes for a 2001 Montana for the ABS light. Also, do you know a code website that has the codes and what they mean?

A few local parts suppliers will scan your vehicle for free. Or you may purchase a code reader that is GM ABS compatible for your year. With a scantool or code reader the full DTC will appear, so you will know which circuit is at fault.

Hope this helps.
