Here is a guide to help you see if the shift interlock solenoid is working:

1. Verify that the key can only be removed in the PARK position
2. When the shift lever is in PARK, the ignition key cylinder should rotate freely from ACC to LOCK. When the shifter is in any other gear or neutral position, the ignition key cylinder should not rotate to the LOCK position.
3. Shifting out of PARK should not be possible when the ignition key cylinder is in the ACC position and the brake pedal is not depressed.
4. Shifting out of PARK should not be possible while applying normal force on the shift lever and ignition key cylinder is in the ACC, ON, or START positions unless the foot brake pedal is depressed approximately 1/2 inch (12 mm).
5. Shifting out of PARK should not be possible when the ignition key cylinder is in the LOCK position, regardless of the brake pedal position.
6. Shifting between any gears, NEUTRAL or into PARK may be done without depressing foot brake pedal with ignition switch in ACC, ON, or START positions.

The diagnostic chart is below. Please let us know what happens.

Cheers

My floor shifter is stuck in park even if I press the release button it still will not shift. I have changed the shifter tested the fuses and wires and put it on the computer and a code U0103 pops up. I have boxes and an 8 boxed on my dash. I have had it swiped with the computer and its stays off for about five minutes then pops back up and will not shift.

See picture for possible causes but a pro should check this out as it can be a module or a short in wiring. It is a CAN BUS problem there are 19 modules hooked to this circuit. But check battery for condition including load test first as that may be the problem.

The brake lights are they coming on? If so have the shift interlock control system checked out. Could be the shift-lock control solenoid.

I had this problem with my 2006 Charger R/T and our 300. There is a plastic piece in the shifter that breaks. We had to have the shifter replaced which we did our selves. It was $192.00 for the parts and about hour and a half labor. That is if you are mechanically able.

Hello, is this a console shifter? If yes, the cover, or piece that has the selections that are used can be removed, and there should be a way for you to release it. If you have this type it could be a shift interlock failure. The key, a cable, and a switch is used. Unless the shift cable has come off at the transmission. A button can release a switch problem. Okay?

The engine starts and the steering wheel moves, but the transmission will not move out of park. I tried the pink release button but did not help.

What is causing this problem? It worked okaythe last time I used the vehicle.

The override (pink release) was broken or detached from something. I had to break down the console and manually press the pink tab at the top of the gear shift (while I moved it in gear) to move it out of park. It does fine once it is out of park.

Hi.
This may sound like a stupid question, but are the brake lights working? The brake light switch actuates the park lock solenoid.

Will not come out of the park position. I have tried wiggling it around but it still will not move down. What could be the problem and how do you fix it?
