estimate a replacement of a head gasket

How much would you estimate a replacement of a head gasket to be around?? I've been told anywhere from $900 to $1800 my engine size is 2.7l and I do not know if my pistons are messed up I know I blew my engine. is it additional just to check if my pistons are messed up?????

at that point, it would be better to replace the entire motor.
