I have a nissan pathfinder and its stalling and its hard to restart at times, and there is a loud rattling noise coming from the engine

When does the rattling occur?
Is the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL or Check Engine Lamp ) showing?
Have you tried to retrieve for trouble codes?

It starts rattling as soon as I start the suv. There is no check engine light and no warning lights that come on.

It should be engine related if it rattles upon starting and if it tends to go off and come back with, it most likely is from the valve lifters.

If it rattles and immediately softens or disappears, it could be a failing timing chain. It is best to get professional advice.
