Enter your question. My car is 2005 mercury mountaineer and has only 61,000 miles on it, and it recently started having jerky shifting problems with the transmission. It doesn't seem to shift easily, especially when just starting up the car for the first time when its sitting a while. Is this a serious transmission problem, or the shifting cylinoid or is the transmission filter clogged up and the system needs to be flushed? I have not had the transmission serviced since i've owned the car from time it being new, because its a sealed transmission.

I would recommend starting by checking the trans fluid to make sure it is clean and full. If it looks dirty, you may want to try a service with a new filter. It's hard to know for sure what is causing it without checking it. Like you mentioned, it could be a shift solenoid going bad, but one solenoid shouldn't cause all the gears to do it.

Check the fluid and let me know what you find. Also, let me know if the check engine light has come on.
