When turning the steering wheel, either left or right, there's a grinding noise. Also, when driving straight, there's a rhythmic pinging sound. My car is 9 1/2 years old but has relatively low mileage on it. I've taken good care of it. Could it be low in steering wheel fluid? Or, is it a brake issue? I was told that I only had 20% braking on the front end. Please advise ASAP.

Check the power steering level first when the engine is warm if it's low add fluid but it sounds like maybe the rack is going bad so have a pro look at it. When the person tells you 20% that means how much of the lining is left and it's kind of like an experienced guess.

Prices vary on all of that due to different areas of the country. You really need an estimate and it may not be that anyhow have apro look at it for a better opinion on what is wrong.
