Check compressions hot and check fuel delivery system, check for contamination in the fuel. I would be looking at the lift pump and the high pressure pump. Power strokes have a habit of failures with these items.
You need a good truck shop that can diagnose it correctly for you and give you a bid.

Yes, Cummings are great engines with very little issues.

I have a 7.3 turbo diesel in this truck. It will not start when its cold in the am unless I plug it in to heat the motor. After that, its ok. Just in the morning it will not start. The wait to start light comes on for the glow plugs and goes off, but will not start. Could there be a bad fuse link at the starter relay motor? The manual shows 2 14Ga. Fuse links at the starter moter relay. Where is the starter motor relay and how can I check to see if the fuse links are good or bad. I will donate to you folks when I get my social security check on the 1st of march. THANK YOU.

The first thing you need to do is verify fuel pressure with a gauge, you can also unscrew the lid on the fuel bowl and make sure it's full of fuel. Jeff

I'm having trouble getting my 7.3l deisel engine witch I just installed to start, upon further invesigation I found I was sucking air in through the exgaust and blowing out my intake. So I did a 180 on my cam shaft retimed everything. And now I am sucking air in through both ports. Both the intake and the exgaust. I am baffled that I don't seem to be have air comming out of any port. I am looking for any thoughts I can get thanx for your time

sincerely,
daryl

May not be but, your engine is cranking in the wrong direction.(Backwords) My KW can stall/start in the wrong direction resulting in exhaust coming out the air cleaner. Worse is that the oil pump is not pumping to the important parts. Must shutoff imediatley and restart. Look at rotation direction. Good luck.

460 V8 - hard to start - have to crank many times and press on gas pedal all the way. Seems to not be getting any gas at startup. Have fuel injection. Truck sits a lot and one fuel tank went dry. I got it started and filled both tanks about 70%. Starts with a bit if play in morning (60 degrees) but very hard to start in afternoon (80 degrees). Once it starts - drives ok. Shut it off - hard to start again. To trouble shoot - will replace fuel filter first.

Is there a fuel reset switch on this model?

Where is the Fuel relay?

Is there a fuse to control the fuel pump(s)?

What should I be looking / listening for?

Things that can hard start, Fuel pump, listen when you first turn the key to on, not start, just on, you will be able to hear it run fo 2-3 seconds, Idle air control valve, it's bolted to the throttlebody, TPS, also on the TBI, Vacuum leaks, clogged PCV, after you start it, check for vac leaks like this get a can of spray gumout, spray the vac lines and maniflod area, when the idle changes, youve found the leak! You want the engine running and spray on the outside but do direct the stream onto the hoses, if it is a vacuum leak, the engine idle will change speed, then you have detected a leak, repair the vacuum leak and see how it runs! If that doesnt do it, you may need a new idle air control valve, it's bolted to the throttlebody
One last this is the engine coolant temp sensor, this acts like a choke for fuel injected vehicles.

Good morning,

Did you check the fuel pressure to the fuel rail? It will cause a extended crank time for the engine to start.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-fuel-system-pressure-and-regulator

Can you check for spark at the plugs?

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-test-an-ignition-system

Did you also check the battery to be sure sufficient voltage is available for starting?

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/car-battery-load-test

Again, a video of how it sounds would be good so I can hear what you hear.

Roy
