Engine is hard starting

I have a 2005 Ford f-250, in which it has been giving me problems starting, I have to keep turning key on and letting it ding out than off than on, I changed the fuel pump itself and today changed the fuel pump regulator on the rail, still not fixed, any ideas? Could it be a fuel pump relay?

I have a 2005 Ford F250 6.0L diesel. It has developed a hard start condition. When cold it will turn over as normal. It will fire once at about the same number of revolutions as it always did. If you continue cranking it may or may not start. If it starts it will buck and skip for a few seconds and then somewhat smooth out. I replaced the glow plug module. Stilll starts the same. If I plug it in, it will start as normal. The code P0611 keeps coming back after I clear it.

Hi, one of the injectors has shorted not allowing the module to work properly, uses an ohm meter to test the injectors, replace the one that has failed, note special tools are required for this job. This guide can help us fix it

I have a 2003 ford f250 with a 6.0l and only in the morning a have trouble starting it. It takes me about 5-6 times of hard cranking to start

Hey does the glow plug light come on, they will have stored trouble codes but no check engine light. It sounds like the glow plug relay has failed it is pretty common. Check make sure your battery connections are good and clean.

Truck got hard to start out of the blue, but when I press hard on the brake pedal every now and then I can hear a leak or weird noise. The fuel pump is been replaced and I’ve kept up with every maintenance issue and ran BG since the time I got the truck in 2002 It does run like a top. Also, I am getting a whining noise at low RPM’s I don’t know if it’s an air leak but it sounds like it’s coming from the transmission. I’m hoping it’s all connected.

Usually a delayed start is related to fuel pressure drop off. Try this.

1) From the off position, turn the key to the run position (engine off) and count to 5

2) Turn the key off.

3) Do the above 3 times. On the 4th time, see if it starts easily.

As far as the noise, Ford power steering pumps make a whining noise. Make sure the fluid is clean and full and see if you notice any change in the sound when turning the steering wheel.

If you could, let me know if any of this helps. Also, I need to know what size engine you have. Please keep in mind, with the number of miles on the engine, compression may be getting lower. That can cause a delayed start as well.

My super duty wont start in the cold weather I have the 7.3 liter turbo diesel also I have green fluid coming out of where you drain the water in fuel. I have put diesel 911 in the tank. I had a vehicle jump starting my truck while I was trying to crank it over batteries have 12.34 volts it was around negative 25 here last night and I am not able to plug the block warmer in. Hopefully yall can help or at best give me some pointers thank you sorry no donation poor college student

First try and find a way to plug that thing up. Check your fuses because there is a fuel heater where the fuel filter is on top and sometimes that shorts out.(Easy stuff first) also test your glow plugs and glow plug relay.

Try running a little "DRY GAS" in the tank and you can pour soem down the intake as well.
Diesel gas collects H2O quickly and can damage the motor.

Have a 97 Ford F250 Diesel. Every time you try to start it, it cranks 15-30 seconds before it finally starts. Even when it's warmed up, it takes that long to start. We have replaced glow plugs, relay, fuel pump, everything we can think of and still have the same problem. What else do we check?

I have had the same issue with my 97 f250. I would say to check your ground wire to the relay with the key in the start pos nand the eng not running should be good gnd I believe its the small purple wire. Its not just like a regular relay, the gnd wire is the signal wire. Also you may check the oil temp sensor this controlls how long/when the glow plugs come on. Also chk oil fou fuel smell could be injectors bleeding off. Worst case scenario could be an ecm issue. You can always put in a rocker switch to relay and bypass the ecm but it would be more beneficial to correct b/c your glow plugs come on even whiled driving at times. Hope this helps.

My '97 Ford F250 I leave it for more than a day without starting it. It just keeps turning over for 30 sec-1min with the occasional sputter before finally starting up.

Why would the truck start hard after its been left without starting for 1+ day but start fine after the first hard start?

After that, it starts up just fine until it's left for 1+ day again.

I've tried dry gas to get rid of any water in the line.

Have the fuel pressure checked. The line could have a leakage somewhere resulting in pressure drop.

The next time you want to start after sitting for a day or more, try cycling the ignition switch ON for two seconds anf OFF. Repeat the procedure 3 times and try starting to see if it helps.

Is the MIL (Check Engine Light) indicating?

7.3 power stroke - Wait to start buzzer sounds when giving trouble. What could cause this?

I just bought this truck 80% of the times of it runs great but the other times it starts to give this trouble. It does this in gear and in neutral. I have owned two Cummins diesels in the past but I have never had any problems.
