After troubleshooting my 2005 dodge ram 5.7L hemi for a code PO406 I have decided to replace the EGR valve. My question is can I buy one from the parts house eg. Standard ignition or dorman brand or do I have to buy mopar for twice the price. The reason I am asking is I read a blog where a person installed a non mopar EGR on a chrysler 300 and said that the computer didn't reckonize it and was going to need a software upgrade for another $150.00. If that is going to be the case it would be cheaper to buy Mopar. Can someone give me heads up please. Thanks!

P0406 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor A Circuit High

I haven't heard of having to reflash the software, but regardless, I suspect a new valve isn't going to solve the problem. It is possible the sensor is defective, but more commonly there's a break in the wiring going to it or there's a corroded terminal in a connector. A high signal voltage is typically caused by a break in the ground wire. You might consider getting the assembly from a salvage yard. That will address the cost and the software issues.
