Hi:
First, determine if the engine is running at a normal operating temp. Check the gauge when it's warmmed up. It should be running at aprox 200 degrees. If it is, the thermostat is fine. If it runs much cooler, the t-stat needs replaced.
With the engine COLD, drain the radiator, follow the upper rad hose back to the engine, and it will end at the t-stat housing. Remove the hose, unbolt the housing and the t-stat is under it. Replace it the same way as you remove it and reverse the sequence.
