Oil pan leak

Rock punctured the oil pan. Drove, unknowingly, with the oil leaking until car stalled. Does this car have the ability to shut itself down before catastrophic engine failure or will the engine need to be replaced?

It may have to be replaced. Here are the instructions on how to replace the oil pan in the diagrams below.

My boyfriends jetta bottomed out coming out of a steep driveway and the oil pan cracked and is leaking. After looking at it more closely it looks like the motor mounts are shot and are touching the bolt on the oil pan. Not sure if just replacing it would totally fix it in case the mounts affect the new pan also, I don't know too much about this kind of problem but he's just stubborn and has been trying Jb weld and other sealants which of course are failing. Any help?

Hi:
If the oil pan is cracked, you need to replace it. JB weld is an okay temporary fix, but I wouldn't recommend it for extended use. As far as the motor mounts, they shouldn't be touching the oil pan. If they are, check to see if there is excessive play in them and replace them if needed.

Trying to remove oil pan and removed all the bolt except the center two attached to the engine. Allen type bolts and are set back and can't get a ball allen wrench to work. Size 5 mm. What type of special tool do I need. This is the end of the pan away from the front of the engine. There are 3 hex head and 4 allen type bolts. Can.T get at the two center bolt. Leaking oil, need to repair pan. Help Please

Need HexBall socket will allow allen to operate from 5 to 15 degs off center. Would need to get from profesional tool supplyer like Snap On

Hi, I tryed to remove my oil pan on my jetta diesel 97 and after removing all the bolt, it seem the pan is jamed and not by the gasket by the way. I don't know if is the oil pan inside or/and the racket that old the stering pump. It seem it blocks a bit the pan and when I changed the motor, I'm not sure if they put the old racket or the new and if they are the same.

I'm want to know if there is a trick or if I must cut a bit of that racket. Thanks for your time.

Actualy I did remove the bracket and it seem that is not that the real problem. Maybe is a tube or something of the oil pump that it is stuck in the windage tray. Is that possible? (I can move it enough to be sure it's not the gasket that retains it). If that is, do I'm better to don't try to removethe oil pan? Thanks again.

The oil pump screen could be hitting, but it should come off. How much movement is there in the pan presently?

There is about 2 inch right and left and 1 inch up and down.

Trying to remove the oil pan; all bolts are out and the pan is loose, but hangs up on something inside. The pan can drop 1/4" but no further. It can be rotated a little and be slid in either direction a little but is hung up on something. Please advise how to proceed.

I have the EXACT same problem. I have all the retaining bolts removed, there's nothing around the flanges of the pan to keep it from dropping, the seal is broken all the way around, it drops 1/4 of an inch, and yet it gets hung up on something inside. My understanding is that it's the oil pump. My repair manual doesn't say anything about it getting in the way, and the only way to move the oil pump would be to remove the oil pan, kind of a catch 22. I don't get it. I'll probably try working the pan off anyway, risking damaging the pump. If anybody has any insight, please email me at cowboy21_70@hotmail. Com
