what should the cost be to replace a 2003 ford ranger xlt 6 cyl a/c compressor?

That depends on how it failed and what has to be changed with it. It's usually in the $600 to $800 range if the condenser doesn't have t be replace but it quite often does if the compressor had an internal failure.
