2002 Pontiac Sunfire gauges

Hi there my I just changed all the gaskets on my buddy's 2002 2.2 3cly pontiac sunfire before I worked on it the gas gauge was very erratic And still is of course never touched it anyway now the temp gauge doesn't work fan does come on I have the snap on souls ultra scanner pulled no codes everything look good had a drive time of 55 mins the temp stayed between 176 and 181 at the end of the drive time let it idle for 10 mins got up to 201 at one point please help not sure what the problems is with the gauges also its now got a weird slight ticking noise can't pin point when I put stestethoscope on it doesn't sound like it's coming from engine please help thank u

It's overheating due to the fan not turning on. Have you checked the wiring to the coolant temp sensor? Maybe it was damaged or disconnected when you replaced gaskets. Also, check to make sure grounds and fuses are good.

I did check all that stuff it was fine I'll double check the wired though the reason it got real hot when I had it at idle was because the fan didn't come on but not cause it has a malfunction because my scanner was plugged in I don't know y the fan doesn't come on but it don't and I forgot. I also read something about some type of motor going out in the cluster on these car thanks for ur help and guidance

Motor in the cluster? Never heard of that. As far as the fan, are you sure it is good? Have you tried running power directly to it to see if it runs? Have you checked of there is power getting to it? Is there power to the fan relays?
