I have a 2002 pontiac grand am, I was installing a new stereo when I tried to turn the key on it would not turn. So I got a new ignition switch for the car installed it and turned the key on but it wont turn over. The original ignition did not have a chip in the key. Why wont the engine turn over when I try to start it?

That is odd. Are other electrical items working? Do the dash lights come on?

After thought. Did you have an OEM stereo that read codes and is tied into the computer system?
