My son's car listed above zx5. I had to replace the alternator, water pump, and timing belt. My friend and I did all the work at his shop. Any ways it was running before we started and now it won’t start. The plugs are turning black, so I guess it’s getting too much gas. Does anyone know if I did something wrong and any suggestions on what could be wrong?

Hi,

If the plugs are getting ignition and most likely too much fuel. Have you checked fuel pressure? Are you certain timing was correct when the belt was installed? Does it backfire or anything when you crank it? Does it sound normal when cranking?

Let me know.

I am not sure if he checked fuel pressure he’s a master mechanic. No codes and it doesn’t backfire and it sounds normal when cranking it. And we tore it back apart and checked everything. Everything is good. The other day we had it running and the longer we ran it the worse it ran.

Since the plugs are black, fuel pressure needs checked. Also, the idea that it runs worse the warmer it got sounds like it could be related to the crankshaft position sensor. He should have a live data scanner. Has he checked for codes? Has he check fuel trims? Trims would indicate a rich or lean fuel mixture. Let me know.
