My alero wont start up I turn the key to start but it wont all it does is make the sound as if it was going to. I used starter fluid and it ran as long as the spray was going but when it stopped it died. One of my friends told me it might be the fuel pump but Don't know if he may be right, and if he is where would it be located? The car has fuel so I dont know why it wont start?

i really appreciate the help.

It could be a fuel pump but it could just as easily be an electric issue with the operating circuit for the fuel pump or even the injectors. The first step is to take a fuel pressure reading and if there is no pressure, verify power arriving at the pump during the first 2 seconds of "key on".
