I am doing this for a friend. He wants to replace the cruise control switches on his truck. When the air bag and cover are removed does it have to be placed in a certain position, such as air bag down or up when placed on the seat? Thanks in advance.

Nope, just handle it with common sense. There are gold-plated contacts in the connectors that you'll be unplugging, and shorting bars that activate when they're unplugged to prevent deployment from static electricity. Do not turn on the ignition switch with anything in the air bag system disconnected because it will set a diagnostic fault code which could turn the system off until it is reset by the dealer.
