Remove the lower radiator hose instead. The petcocks are plastic, and go into a radiator tank also made of plastic. There has been way too much trouble with the sealing surface inside the tank cracking when the petcock is turned back in. When that happens, you will have a drip about once every five seconds. The fix for that is to replace the radiator.
A lot of Ford radiators do not have petcocks. They have a rubber cap instead that is held on with a hose clamp.
