I am fairly new at this so please bear with me. I have been doing more and more repairs on my vehicles and thought I would try and tackle this.

The last couple of weeks, I have noticed a fresh oil spot underneath my truck. In checking my oil on my Ford F-150 XL 4.2L V6, I noticed it was almost empty. So, I immediately placed 3 quarts of oil in it and noticed a steady drip underneath the truck.

Upon initial examination, the leak looks to be coming from near or behind the oil filter just above the oil pan. I have not completely determined the exact spot leaking, but upon first glance, it appears to be coming from this area. It drops onto what I believe is the chassis that runs between the two front wheels.

I can smell antifreeze as well.

Would this be the oil pan gasket? Oil filter gasket? Or a leak from the head gasket?

This cold be the head gasket if you smell antifreeze so have your coolant system pressure checked. For the oil leak check the oil pressure switch which is on the left front of engine also check oil filterfor sealing good some of the cheaper ones can break. If you can't find the oil leak take to a quarter car wash and wash all around where the oil is so you can help see it better.
