This has been an ongoing problem since april. My van won't start right away. I turn the key and it cranks but doesn't start. Sometimes we have to do it over and over again. Sometimes when it seems like it's gonna start we push the gas pedal a little bit then it starts but sometimes it doesn't. A couple times we've gotten stuck cause the battery dies after trying to start it so much. When it starts it sometimes sounds like it's gonna shut off but we push the gas pedal and sometimes we hear something like popping noises like there is air in there. Now there is a tube that goes into a black box behind where the battery sits I have no clue what it's for. But when I followed it it goes to a joint with two other hoses and one of those hoses goes to the engine. We've replaced air intake valve and I believe sensor cleaned the battery terminals. The terminals and cables have corrosion. Can it be the cables needing replacement? And what is the hose that goes to the black compartment behind battery for?

The codes that were coming up were p0171 and p0172 my brother in law changed the parts I named above. No more codes pop up the only thing on the dash where the mileage is at the word "done" pops up alot. My brother in law also checked the fuel pressure and I think he said it goes up to 30

Fuel pressure isn't high enough, should be 53-63 with key on and pump activated by a scan tool. 53 is minimum

So the fuel pump would need to be replaced? My mother in laws neighbor said it could be the fuel pump. My husband and his dad checked in it April when it started doing it and it worked fine. Would the cables to battery being corroded be something that causes this as well?

And the fuel pressure being low is due to the fuel pump.

My 2001 voyager has a vacuum line in the area you're describing. It runs from that connection point to a small point on the back of the battery box.
