Can you just repair or replace the tensioning roller on a 2000 VW Passat, and what is the access process

If you are refering to an idler pulley, there is one bolt that holds the pulley assembly on. Remove it and replace the roller which is basically all it is with a bearing in it. If it is the tensionier, the tensionier needs replaced. Remove the belt, unbolt the tensionier and replace.
