Car wont start up in park

My car wont start up in park but it will start up in neutral and I park it to get out I have to put the emergency brakes up in order to park and its a mazda 626 2000

Want to knw whats going on with ur car?

It needs either an adjustment of the shift cable and lever, or the park pawl in the transaxle is broken.

That would be a problem with the neutral safety switch which is now known as the transmission range sensor.

Maybe but since it wont lock into park, Id be surprised.

Maybe I misunderstood her but I thought she was putting the parking brake on while she started it in neutral because it wouldn't start in Park. If it really has no Park, then it may be a cable issue.
