I tried turning in 4 hi yesterday and I had no reverse! I then managed to maneuver onto the street and drive forward. I did not go very far as my truck was making a loud continuous screeching/whirring sound. My dash said there was low fuel even though I was sure I had a 1-4 of a tank left before starting it. Possibly depleted while I was trying to reverse? It was snowing but not more than -15.I am so confused! Please help! I'm a girl that doesn't have any rugged men around to help and don't want to get screwed at the mechanics due to a lack of knowledge.

Make sure the trans fluid is clean and full. If it is, there are many things that could cause the problem. You will need to check trans fluid pressure to start. If the check engine light is on, you may want to start with having the computer scanned for trouble codes that may indicate where the problem is coming.

Thankyou for the quick reply:) I was also wondering if it is safe to drive? (Just far enough to get the fluids checked as I would be lost doing so myself)

It is hard for me to say it is safe. It is easy to check the trans fluid. The dipstick is under the hood (near rear of engine). Park the vehicle on a flat surface, place it in park, place the park brake on, start the engine and allow it to warm up. With it running, check the trans fluid. Let me know what you find.
