1999 Dodge Ram 318 BLOCK 360 COMPUTER

I DRIVE OVER THE ROAD, MY PICKUP AT WENT DOWN { MOTOR } GET ANOTHER ONE AND MY WIFE HAD IT PUT IN. I GOT BACK AND DROVE IT AND RAN LIKE JUNK, LOOK AT IT FOR TWO WEEKS AND GOT TO LOOKING AND THEY PUT A 318 AND NOT A 360 WITCH WAS IN IT. I THINK THE ECU IS NOT RIGHT. NOW IT OVER FUEL AND BACK FIRES. BUT DO NOT KNOW WHAT YEAR MOTOR. ECU MUNBER IS 5604015AF VIN IS A X PLEASE HELP KEN

I don't know about the backfiring, but the 318 is internally balanced and uses a different torque converter or flywheel than the 360. This will cause an engine vibration that won't go away.

Your question sounds like you said the automatic transmission went out, yet you're talking about engine sizes. The 318 and the 360 are the same block, with just a different bore and stroke.

It sounds like you had the engine replaced. The VIN will tell you what engine came with the vehicle from the factory. If the shop put the wrong size engine in, they should correct their error. You can contact your state's Bureau of Automotive Repair for help.
