My 1998 subaru forester will not start. It makes a clicking noise but the starter has been checked and is fine. It an be jump started and afterwards can be started again for several hrs when turned off. Eventually it will not start again. When it is driving, the dash and headlights will start out bright but eventually will dim and the abs light will come on if and only if you leave the headlights on. The battery and the alternator are both reading the correct voltage. But the alternator is making a chirping noise. Also I tried turning the heater on and it made my gauges stop working. What could be the problem? Any suggestions?

Either the battery is bad or the alternator isn't recharging the battery. You may want to have it checked by another person. NOTE: If the alt is checking good and the battery still checks good, there could be a wiring issue between the alt and the battery or since you hear a chirping noise from the belt when the alt is loaded, the belt may just be slipping.

Check these things and let me know what you find.
