Has the timing belt jumped? If it jumps one tooth the Check Engine light should turn on and set a diagnostic fault code in memory for "cam and crank sync". If it jumps two teeth the computer will shut the engine down to protect it by turning off spark and the fuel pump but you will often see intermittent spark from one of the coils. At three or more teeth off the open valves will hit the pistons. You must also check to see if the fuel pump is running during cranking, not just for the one second burst after turning on the ignition switch.
