I've got a grinding clunking noise in the front end. i checked the hub bearing and found no play however, the brake pads and rotors were worn, particularly the inner pad. Is it possible that the caliper is shot and needs to be replaced, or should i take the bearing off for further inspection..

Noisy bearings don't have play. The only definitive way to identify which one is noisy is to run it in gear with the front end jacked up and listen on the spindle next to each one with a stethoscope.
