I am working on a 1998 Chevrolet 2500 4x4 5.7L the truck was drove off the road last week and since then every time you press the brake Nadal it would blow the brake light fuse. Assuming a ground came loose. My customer ran a jump wire on the fuse as a terrible solution. Needless to say the next day he had an electrical fire. After replacing what I could obviously see which includes brake light switch and the 2 small harnesses that connects to it I couldn't even get a fuse in without it blowing. Had to remove the dashboard and repair about 12 more wires also found bad ground under truck and repaired it. Now everything works and the fuse isn't blowing but the brake lights are backwards. They are on until you press the pedal? So I'm guessing due to not being able to tell the color of the wires I may have something wrong. Can u provide a wiring diagram of the brake light switch please? Or give your expert opinion on what this may be? Thanks a million I really appreciate it.
