Engine very hot?

If I have the car running for a little bit even just 2 go 2-3 km up the road and I open the hood the hood proper that holds the hood up is so hot it can almost burns my hand but my heat gauge in the car runs under half and it doesnt over heat

Could be overheating and you're not aware off-try checking the thermostat and coolant temperature sensor for starter

At some parts of the day or night I am driving for a hour or longer so my car is not overheating go anything else I can check
