transmission or something else?

vehicle will not move when in gear. if i rev the rpms up enough (about 300) i can feel the vehicle trying to move. is this the transmission or something else. im not sure if there is a clutch or the gears slipping or if its a silenoid. any info would be helpful so i know who to take it to. thanks.

What is it a manual or an automatic transmission??

Have it checked out seems to me the tranny is slipping badly-Have it pressure tested to find out more-
