I have a 1997 V6 3.8 liter mustang. What could be causing my odometer and tachometer not to work?

Most likely a malfunctioning vehicle speed sensor, which is located on the left rear of the transmission.

Locate the sensor and unscrew it from the transmission. Inside should be a cable that drives the speedometer. Pull on it to see if it comes out of the cable housing. If so, replace it. If not, the speedometer is most likely faulty.

A nice slap on top of the dash, might rule out a loose connection.

Ever now and then, we do this to our spare car, a '95 Neon

Reckon, one day I'll be forced to clean the connections on the cluster

Good Luck

Kinda knew the center abbreviation, unsure of the other 2---Military lingo is much the same. It does need an attitude adjustment from time to time!

My wife showed me that trick in "Lil' Red". We seldom drive him, 'cept when we have to.

I bought the car w/ flaky moss growing all over it (perfect cammo) had 52K on it. I was the previous owners plumber several times. It had a perfect interior, a small, dragged dent down the drivers side. They said it had a short in it. I found out from their mechanic, after I bought it, they only tried to drive it every 6 months. The battery would be dead. Gets 30 MPG, A/C is perfect, bought 1-O2 sensor for it. My step-daughter abused it for 4 years (getting back on here feet?).I'm still trying to get my $250 investment out of it!

Josheu, Make sure you let us know how you turn out, or continue to return for further assistance.

That's him beside my CJ5--My Niece and I rode 40 miles, both of us wearing my steel pots, to the Memorial Day Ceremony at the cemetery my Dad is in. (You could see the envy in everyones eyes, along the way!)

Just found a better pic
