97 Chevy Astro Van, with noisy lifter when cold. I want to make sure I won't be stranded on the side of the road due to this on a trip. I added something to clean the oil, just had a change and complete tuneup. Is this something that will require a new engine to be safe? Is there any specific product that will help? We just bought this van, and love it, I just want to make sure its safe on long trips.

The lifters on the 4.3 are adjustable. That is most likely all that needs done. As far as the noise, when steel gets hot, it expands, so that is most likely why the noise goes away. I would have it adjusted. If it is a slight tick that goes away, you should be fine on a trip, but it is adjustable.
