My van was in for a fuel pump replacement by a local mech. After getting the van back later that night, the van was smoking from the fuse box. I took the van back and the mech said that the wire harness caught on fire.

Could that have happen because of the wiring of the fuel pump??? Need you help....

If the pump was working, I would say no. However, a wire could have been pinched when the tank was replaced. Where did the wires burn, near the fuel tank or somewhere other?

The harness was burning under the dashboard by the fuse box. ...however the mech. stated, that he never disconnected the battery. The cover to the air filter was hitting the fan and had to be connected back and the clock on the radio was not at the right time. I am assuming the battery was disconnected.

What do you think?????

If the clock was off, the battery is the first thing I would suspect was disconnected.

As far as the air filter, did he just forget to replace it?

Overall, I stick with my original thoughts. I really believe a powered wire was pinched and shorted.
