1996 Oldsmobile 98 no start

When I put the key in the cylinder and turn to on position, security light comes on but the starter doesn't spin. The car won't start. There's nothing wrong with ignition system or fuel pump, starter just doesn't engage. Every blue moon it will start but it's not worth taking a chance on driving it the way it is.

Perform the passlock relearn procedure. See if it starts then. Hook up a battery charger to battery. Then turn the key and try to crank the engine, (it wont crank) then leave the key in the on position. If after 15-20 minutes the light goes off, it should start. If not, then one of the passlock wires to the ignition is probably broken, as that is the most common.
