1996 Hyundai Elantra wont start

It cranks but won't start I have changed spark plugs and still no so I used engine starter fluid and it start and will remain on just fine ill turn it off and try to start it again without the starting fluid and it just cranks. So ill put more starting fluid and it runs then it starts to over heat I have changed the thermostat on it also and still doing that so if you can help please

It sounds like you have what I call a "Lazy Fuel Pump." What happens is the pump gets weak and can't produce enough pressure to start the engine, but is can keep it running once it starts. What I would suggest is that you first replace the fuel filter if it has never been replaced. Once that is done, check fuel pump pressure to make sure it is within the manufacturer's specs. It may just be a partially plugged fuel filter or the pump may be going bad.
