How do I find the starter on a 1995 Corolla? Can't trace the cables to it because they are massively bundled and branch in many directions and seem to intersect with other wire bundles. Online diagrams only show the starter, but not in its installed context. Where the heck is it?

The starter is mounted into where the transmission and engine meet. Look about oil pan level along close to where the trans and engine meet and you will see it. It will be between the engine and radiator.

Let me know if you find it.

Thanks, found it. You can see it from below, which your description implies. Other guidance I saw online seemed to assume you could find it from above. I suspect they were looking at a different car.

Oh, btw, it's on the firewall side of the engine, not on the radiator side. Which is good, if you think about layout design -- the exhaust side on this Corolla is the radiator side, and the intake side is opposite. You don't want your starter mounted next to your exhaust pipes, so Toyota didn't do that.
