1995 Buick Century hood latch

It appears the hood latch cable has come off the latch under the hood. Is there a way to open the hood without damaging the car? I've had to release the hood by pulling the cable from the inside with vise grips because the housing was damaged in the past.

If you can look thru the grill and set the bracket that the cable attached to you should be able to pull it to the side with a pair of long needle nose pliers or even a long screwdriver or pry bar.
