The Idle Air Control Valve is probably in need of cleaning or replacement. It is on the intake manifold near the throttle body. It will have a large vacuum tube or an electrical connector that gives it a signal that keeps the idle steady. If it has a vacuum line, check it for leaks and if it has an electrical connector, wiggle it around when the car is running.
If you take it off to clean it always spray the ports from the outside in towards the intake direction to avoid creating a clog.
