Hi! New fuel pump, there's spark, haven't replaced fuel filter or pressure reg. Or relay. It turns over like crazy on those times when it doesn't start, but nothing. Then I'll let it sit for a day or two, then whoah! Starts right away, or not at all - though not as well as normally, but once started, happy camper for the rest of the day. Cold is creeping in here, and that seems to be when it won't start. It only hasn't started 3 times, but when trying to get a mechanic to look at it, starts every darned time! The last time I started it after it wouldn't go (sitting for 2 days). It seemed hungry for gas, then took off. The mechanic has had it now for 3 days. Starting every time for him! I need my car! Help?

Hard to say from here. You need to find out what is missing when it does not start. It will be missing either fuel or spark. Once it is determined what is missing we and your mechanic can go to that system and see where the failure is.

If you replaced the fuel pump, it may be spark which means maybe a distributor failure or coil failure.

Thanks both for the reply. It's AT a mechanics rightnow, but I was hoping to have the car tomorrow. He just phoned and said there was no spark (Yes, he finally couldn't start it!) Very odd, because the first time it wouldn't start, I tested for spark myself, and there WAS spark!- Rasmataz, any point in suggesting your question to him at this point?

No spark -let him fix that part and then comeback for more-The one I gave above is for fuel problems not ignition

Seems the plugs were really bad, and so was the fuel filter (both now replaced) - also replaced was the ignitor, which seemed to give more spark when tapped? I have the car but have not yet been billed- he said to drive it for a few days first and see how it goes (guess he's a little uncertain that this was the problem)- How many mechanics would let you drive off without putting down any money? (I'll certainly be back, of course!)
