I have a 1990 Ford F-150 4 wheel drive with a 5.8 engine. I was driving it last week it sputtered 2 times and then died and will not start. When I turn the key to the on position I do not here the fuel pump run. I grounded the terminal on the test plug to make the pump run all of the time and nothing. I replace the fuel pump relay and still nothing.I took the cover off of the old relay and manually closed the contacts and the pump runs. I checked the plug for the relay with a VOM and I do not get any power to the coil. What else is in the circuit that could keep me from getting power to the coil of the fuel pump relay.

I checked the all of the fusible links and none of them were blown. There was one of them that you could tell that the wire had been hot and the insulation was melted. I replaced it and turned the key and still no fuel pump. I removed the EEC relay and checked for voltage to the coil with the key turned in and I had 12.5 volts. When I plugged the relay back in it smoked the wire on the fusible link that I had just replaced. I think the EEC module it's self is bad?

Try a new fusible link and a new relay first. I doubt it's the module the relay may have been plugged in backwards

Check fuel pressure with a gauge auto parts rent it and see if inertia switch is disengaged. If it is push it closed so pump will work it's on lh side of dash above brake pedal. Then have a pro check your circuit for either a short to pump or switch problem
