1989 Corolla, how hard of a job is it to replace front main seal?

No too easy as you need to remove the timing belt and that requires removing the crank pulley and components.

It is straightforward, I would guess the reason is to stop oil leakage, correct? The replacement of the front seal may not stop the leak. Toyota places the oil pump at the front of the crankshaft just behind that seal and the profile gasket has been known to leak.
