1988 honda accord wont steer. Sometimes. Turn wheel right but the car still goes straight. Sometimes hear a noise when I turn the wheel

You definitely need to thoroughly inspect the steering components. Or have it done by a mechanic.

This is a safety concern and should be attanded to asap.

Most likely the steering column to steering box linkages are not secured. From under the dash check the steering U-joints holding bolts. If bolts are secure, with engine off, turn steering and note if the steering wheel is turning without the U-joints under the column turning. If steering wheel turns but steering shaft does not, the steering wheel is not properly secured.

If the shaft turns but you have a feeling of somethig slipping, the steering box is bad and has to be replaced.
