What is nessary TBI operate properly?

Have a 87 chevy 1/2 ton with 350 v8. Installed a rebuilt 350 put a set of headers on it and elimated the air pump. It starts but will not idle the O2 sensor is not connected. Will the O2 sensor disconnected cause it to not idle. Also the guages do not work could be a ground are these two problems connected.

No its connected-try cleaning out the idle air control valve and EGR valve and see what happens

Its not connected-O2 sensor will only cause it to be running rich at all times
