The alternator mounting bracket has a long bolt that screws into the front of the engine. The threads seem to be striped as it will not tighten down. It will not even slightly grab a thread. I seems like there are no threads at all. Is there a way to fix this? I had to drill a hole in the bolt and bracket to keep the bolt from working it's way out but it is hard to tighten down the other bolts for the alternator good enough to keep the belt tight.

If the bolt is stripped out it needs to be replaced. Not having all the bolts on the alternator bracket could eventually vibrate enough to cause some problems, even loosing the serpentine belt and then you are stuck wherever you break down. If the bolt is not stripped you will need to either get someone to re-tap the hole or buy a kit and do it yourself. You can also check to see if there is any debris in the hole itself.
