I am trying to get my car to smog. No check engine light is on, but if you hook up scanner the P1298 code comes up. So I replaced it and still doing it, but if I turn the headlights on and scan it there is no codes. I am stumped I have replaced the ELD two times thinking the one I got was bad but same thing.

P1298 should not keep the car from passing emissions. You also might try leaving the headlights on when you take it in for inspection. And a code does not necessarily just mean to change a part. What it really means is that there is a problem somewhere in that circuit and further diagnosis is needed. According to AllData, since the code goes away when you turn the headlights on, check the connections at a junction box located under the dash, passenger side. I am including a diagnostic flow chart from AllData in an image file. Hopefully this helps you out. Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi I have a 2002 Honda Civic LX Coupe. I have a code P1298 for the electronic load detector. Honda says I need to replace the whole fuse box. Is there any way to replace it without buying the whole box? They do sell the part fo the 4dr Lx the part # is 38255-S5A-003. Why would they sell it for 1 and not the other?

Yes, you can purchase the ELD without buying the whole fuse box. I have replaced a few at my shop.
