Hi Folks, I have the car listed above SE-R Spec V. It has the 2.5L HO engine. I'm a DIY mechanic and have been maintaining vehicles for 35+ years. Yesterday I performed a simple spark plug change. We bought the car second hand a few months ago, and I was unsure of the plug condition. So like any good maintenance program, I put in new spark plugs. This vehicle takes a very specific and expensive plug. The plugs are NGK laser Iridium Model DILKAR6A11-9029. These are $30.00 Canadian dollar a piece. I performed the plug change over taking care to 1) not let anything fall into spark plug hole. 2) Ensuring factory torque spec we used. 3) being gentle with the coils. All plugs come pre-gapped from NGK. NGK warn not to gap these as the tips are extremely sensitive. I checked all gaps and they were spot on.44" I replaced the plugs, and put the coils back on One at a time, to ensure that all was done clean and safe. When I was complete, I went to start the car over and it cranks but won't start. I can smell fuel is getting to the engine with the front door open. On an extended crank it sounds like it was coughing to a start, but then wouldn't turn over. I removed the negative battery terminal for 15 minutes, and re-connected and tried again. Still cranks but won't start. Any help that you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rob, Winnipeg Canada.

Hello,

Have you checked to see if you are getting spark at the spark plugs? When cranking the engine is there a rpm signal? Is the rev counter needle moving slightly? Next check if there is 12V supply at the ignition coils with ignition on
Disconnect the fuel injectors before attempting the below. Remove each coil and spark plug individually, carefully ground the spark plugs and crank the engine over. Is there spark? If not then try the same using the old spark plugs.

Basics on why an engine will not start:

Please let us know how you get along.
