A trick that I use is to get a long Phillips screwdriver (18-24 inches) and slide the tip of it into the back of the connector so to depress the tab because it fits in there perfectly, then while the tab of the connector is depressed either pull on the harness with your hand if accessible or with a long set of needle nose pliers. This is easier done with the connector still attached to the small retainer because it won’t get away from you when you try to push the screwdriver into the back of it! Hope this helps!
