P1698-NO Bus message

Hi, I have a Jeep Cherokee sport 2001. My idle speed seems very low, I've read in my hand book that it should range between 700-900 and mine is in the low 500. I've replaced the idle air control motor and cleaned the throttle body but the result is still the same. I took the car to a mechanic for a check since my transmission was acting up after scanning the computer he found the following error codes P1698-NO BUS MESSAGE FROM TRANS CONTROL MODULE and P1698-NO BUS MESSAGE FROM TCM (without the check engine light beign on). He tried to clear them but it would not let him, so he advised me to take the car to a car electrician. I recently found out that the car has been in an accident with the prior owner. I guess I would like to know if all these issues are connected somehow and what I should do. Thanks in advance.

The actual error code is P1694 Fault In Companion Module No CCD Messages Received From ECM". I apologize.

It sounds like the PCM is bad not communicating. I would try a used one to see what happens.

How about the idling problem I was referring to in the same question? It idles below 500rpm and I know it should be around 650. I did all the standard stuff. Cleaned the idle air motor removed all carbon from throttle body and put in a new filter and still the same issue. I even replaced the idle air motor at one point but it did nothing. Thanks again.

Hello,
I had the same error code. I also received the no bus, plus my car would start but then stop. I replaced the crank sensor and it seems to be fixed.

Engine had just been exchanged with a 98 4.0l, and installed. Got the engine running after adjusting the distributor. The engine seem to stall suddenly sometimes like there is an ignition failure.
On the dash it says "no bus" and most if not all of the gauges do not work. I can not scan for codes because of linking error.

What would cause a "NO BUS" condition?

Seems to me the cluster has lost its communication with the computer-have the computer checked and tested

It was a ground wire not in place on the block.

The gauges don't work and there is a message in the odometer "no bus" and the engine check light is on.

The jeep runs fine in this mode.

The problem is intermittent.

See my profile, imma cj jeep kinda guy, and they are my strongpoint, I answer them. Alot!

I do not know your rig but maybe able to steer you to the right place.I am a member like you, they liked my answering (i try to stay within my boundries with my answering), and wah-lah.A new title!

I was sorta lost on these computer-rigs too, but I am learning slowly.

1st, check engine light. You have a code. Great. Airborne!

Now you need to know what it is and what it means.

Take him to autozone or advance auto. They can read the code. Free!

They see this stuff, all the time!

They can code you, usually, identify the problem, sell you the part, show you where it goes, sometimes--i have seen them install the ez stuff, in the parking lot!

I generally, stay in good repore with them, and if I do not get their help. They steer me to the right place.

The more mature, been there awhile guy, is your target. If its hot out, a cooler with assorted soft drinks, aids in the "good repore, bonding process". Sorta casually grab a soda, a few, "teasing sips". Then force your cooler onto them. You will be their high-light of the day. You will be remembered the next time.I do this at salvage yards, and other places too. Its sorta like a "discount card" also.

Eliminating a shop!

This is not a sure fix

But is a place to start

My vehicle runs, but every few days, it runs, the dash mileage meter, and other dash meters stay at zero, at which time. Check engine light comes on, and airbag light comes on. Message reads what looks like "NO BUS 5". Hubby says, car has actually shut off for a time, when these lights and message come on, but it has not when Iha ve been driving. What do I need to repair?

Hello,

This codes and problem happen when one of the computers is going out either the PCM or BCM. I would run the codes to get an idea of which one it is. It will show a code that will give us a clue which one.

I had this problem as well the dealer replaced the BCM cost me $430.00 but at least is fixed.

My jeep is giving the no bus display on my dash. On start up I have no gauges what so ever. The warning lights are engine, airbag, no key. The gauges will come back to life after 5 or 10 minutes driving. If I turn on my rear window defoger switch my gauges come back instantly. When turned off the are all off again. Very strange.

Loosing ground from BUS when you turn rear fogger on dash grounds through it. Check connector B on instrument cluster. Terminal B1 white/black wire groune B2 violet/brown voltage. Suspect no ground on B1

When driving both the tactometer and speedometer drop to zero, airbag light comes on, check engine light comes on and mileage window displays "no bus" some times it resets itself on its own. Sometimes I can shift to neutral and restart the car to clear the issue. Does not occur every time I drive and sometimes occurs multiple times in one 50 mile trip. Any idea or do I just need to take it in for a diagnostic?
