Won't turn over

So I feel a little dumb for asking this question casue normally I've gotten by fixing everything myself. But I'm clueless on my problem.

I ran out of gas and found out my fuel gauge is off but after I pushed it to the gas pump, filled it up, jumped in and tryed to start it nothing happens.

I'm guessing it's the starter cause it does make the grinding noise but the was no sign before hand. Just strikes me as odd.

Any ideas?

you may have a frozen fuel pump from running out of gas as gas is lube for it. tyr smacking bottom of tank with rubber hammer or palm of hand sometimes that frees it up but it will probably need to be replaced. if you think it's the starter it will whine but not turn engine over then starter is b bad.
