This is how it started. Went to the store came out and it would not start. Noticed that I did not hear fuel pump run and gas gauge did not move. Engine cranked over fine. I knew I had gas so thought fuel pump relay, or pump or something that controls it called tow truck, after about half an hour I tried to start it. Turned key on and noticed gas gauge was working. Car started and I drove it home. This happened several more times the same way until now. It will not start at all. Gas gauge does not move, security lock goes out, with other warning lights. From what I read sounds like a BCM is bad. I tried this and it did not work. Parts are used. I replaced out of same car ECM, BCM and ignition switch from 2005 and had same result, no start. Thought car maybe had same problem.

Hello, I am Danny.

Unfortunately, Installing a used BCM and ECM are not just plug-n-play. Both have to have a relearn procedure done to them using a GM Tech 2 scan tool. I have attached a picture of the procedures needing to be done. Hope this helps and feel free to ask any questions if needed. Thanks for using 2CarPros.

Thanks for your answer. If ECM, BCM and ignition are from the same car would they recognize not each other without doing a relearning procedure? Also, cannot retrieve trouble codes scan tool reads data link error.

Hello again.

Sorry, No it does not just plug-n-play. It has to have a relearn from the GM Tech 2 scan tool. Even if you get from same model car it still has to be done. Once that gets done everything will communicate. Hope this helps and thanks again for using 2CarPros.

Hi, maybe I am being thick headed but I do not see why if I have another 2004 Vue that is running fine I pull the ECM, BCM and ignition switch and put them in my 2004 why it would not work. Why would they not communicate when they did in the other SUV? Thanks I will not bother after this. Thanks

Hello again.
It is okay. We are here to help with any questions or comments! Basically, The computers in the cars (BCM, ECM)have to have a relearn/update/coded to your particular car. It takes all your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) information to take in to consideration all options/data/parameters on your particular vehicle. Yes, in theory just take a BCM from a 2004 Vue and install it in another 2004 Vue. It could be something as trivial as one car having crank(manual) windows and your Vue having power windows (BCM controlled). Just the way it works these days. This is for all computer controlled cars these days. Same thing goes with ECM's. Hope this helps and feel free to ask any questions any time. Thanks for using 2CarPros.
